A new step will be taken this Friday regarding the so-called ‘fuel of the future’, precisely in the area that has been a pioneer in the development of this new industry. With the presence of the President of the Republic, Gabriel Boric, the Ministries of Energy, Economy, and Public Works, the Governor of the Magallanes Region, Jorge Flies, Corfo and the Trade Association of Green Hydrogen Producers and its derivatives of Magallanes (H2V Magallanes AG), will sign a public-private agreement that commits actions in five areas: development of human capacities, productive chains, technological innovation, common infrastructure and the harmonious development of the region around this new industry. With the signing of the agreement, a tripartite table is launched that will work with specific goals and deadlines, for the promotion of measures that seek, among other things, to create quality jobs in the region, promote the acquisition of inputs and services from local suppliers, the industrialization of the national economy and the creation of the first Applied Research Technology Center in Green Hydrogen in the region, a tender to be held next year. It should be recalled that the trade association H2V Magallanes – formed in April this year – is composed of six companies that have projects in the region at various stages of development: HIF Global, HNH Energy, TEG Chile, Total Eren, EDF Chile and EDF Renewables. The latter two are subsidiaries of the EDF Group. The details of the agreement What does the alliance involve? As explained by the Ministry of Economy, in order to promote the hiring of people from Magallanes at different educational levels, a diagnostic study of the labor force will be carried out to identify the matrix of competencies and qualifications required, in addition to a survey of the existing labor force at regional and national level. Meanwhile, the companies will commit to specific preferential hiring goals that will benefit the inhabitants of the Magallanes region. Among other matters, the feasibility of creating a plan for the development and implementation of shared port infrastructure for greater efficiency and sustainability in the import of inputs and export of products will be analyzed, and a plan for electricity transmission infrastructure aimed at the creation and strengthening of an Interconnected System of Magallanes will be agreed upon. Additionally, support will be given to the design of a road infrastructure plan for the development of the green hydrogen industry that will allow the efficient and rapid development of the industry with the least possible environmental and social impact. Finally, the evaluation of mechanisms to generate long-term solutions to water scarcity in the areas where the projects are located is committed, allowing to address the impacts of climate change at the local level. Nicolás Grau, Minister of Economy, emphasizes that the importance of this agreement lies in the fact that each of the parties has voluntarily built a common vision on how to develop this industry. This is a very interesting starting point to which more companies in the region will be able to join and which can be replicated in other parts of the country where natural conditions allow it’, he said. Meanwhile, the manager of H2V Magallanes AG, María Isabel Muñoz said: ‘This protocol will ensure with a sense of opportunity and anticipation, the conditions to promote the takeoff of pioneering projects in the production of green hydrogen and its derivatives, and realize a competitive business operation for the regional economy and the geopolitical projection of Chile, placing our country among the world’s major prod
