Focusing on project consolidation, public-private articulation and capacity building, Hyvolution Chile seeks to position itself as the main catalyst for H2V in Chile and the region. In this interview conducted by Revista Nueva Minería y Energia, Carola Fuentes, general manager at FISA, tells the latest news about the event..
Chile is preparing for a new edition of Hyvolution Chile, the main international meeting dedicated to green hydrogen (H2V) and its applications in the country. The event will be held from September 2 to 4 at the Metropolitan Santiago convention center, located in Vitacura, under the organization of FISA -belonging to the GL events group- in collaboration with H2 Chile.
In conversation with Nueva Minería y Energía, Carola Fuentes, general manager at FISA, highlights the growth that the event has experienced, in parallel to the advance of the H2V industry in the country. “The hydrogen industry has experienced a significant evolution in recent years, and that is reflected in what Hyvolution represents today. If in its first edition the companies mainly presented projects and developments in initial stage, today the fair is consolidated as a showcase of solutions,” she says.
In her opinion, the Green Hydrogen Action Plan presented by the government with a view to 2030 represents a key milestone in the upward trajectory of this sector. “Hyvolution Chile will be the space where we will be able to observe how this strategic axis begins to materialize. This is linked to a robust investment portfolio that projects green hydrogen initiatives for more than US$40 billion in Chile,” she points out.
A similar vision is shared by Susana Jiménez, president of the Confederation of Production and Commerce (CPC) and of the Hyvolution 2025 Congress. “From the CPC we want to be part of this momentum. We are interested in collaborating so that Chile can take advantage of its potential in clean energy, generating employment, innovation and regional development. Spaces like Hyvolution are essential to advance in public-private partnerships and project the role of hydrogen in the country’s energy future,” she said.
Global projection
Two months before the summit, Carola Fuentes comments on the expectations regarding the participation of exhibitors and visitors. “We are working with dedication to surpass the standard set by the previous edition, in which we received 142 exhibitors and 4,391 visitors from 31 countries. The projections for this year are auspicious, and international participation will once again be a hallmark of the fair,” she says.
According to her, this year delegations from countries such as Italy, Switzerland, Spain, France, Korea and Canada, among others, will be present. “Also, we again have the support of key players in the green hydrogen ecosystem, such as Wood, Schneider, Ulog, Marval and the French Pavilion, which reinforces the global and strategic character of this meeting,” she adds.
In parallel, the third edition of the Hydrogen Night is being prepared, an instance conceived as a space to connect the main players in the sector, promote collaboration and generate business and investment opportunities.
Hydrogen and Presidential Candidates
The Hyvolution 2025 Congress will be broad and diverse. During the first day, panels will focus on the portfolio of green hydrogen projects in the country, with emphasis on value creation and competitive positioning of Chile. Proposals to accelerate growth, economic incentives and financing mechanisms for the production and use of H2V and its derivatives will also be analyzed.
The second day will be dedicated to the geopolitics of H2V and the regulatory challenges to promote projects on a commercial scale. Finally, the closing day will address the role of hydrogen in aviation and maritime transport, the potential of green ammonia as a driver of the energy transition, and strategies for capacity building in this key industry.
Susana Jimenez points out that the Hyvolution Congress is an event that always attracts interest, as it brings together leading experts from across the hydrogen value chain. “We are living a key moment in terms of economic growth and sustainable development, and the energy transition requires voices capable of establishing definitions on issues such as financing, human capital or territorial development,” she points out.
She also stresses that a perspective on demand, regulatory frameworks and the role of this sector in the realization of a multi-million dollar portfolio of projects is needed. “For the same reason, and with a view to the future, it is important to count on the participation of the presidential candidates, so that they can give us their vision and proposals regarding the development of green hydrogen”, she says.
Carola Fuentes agrees with the business leader expressing that, “undoubtedly, the panel of greatest interest will be the one that will review the commitments adopted by the presidential candidates regarding this energy”.
Transversal articulation
Since its inception, Hyvolution has emerged as a space for cross-cutting linkages, as endorsed by Carola Fuentes: “We firmly believe that the virtuous articulation between all the actors that make up the green hydrogen ecosystem only brings positive consequences for the development of the country. Experience has shown us that it is essential to have the capabilities and tools developed by the private and public sectors, and academia in the planning and execution of projects, as has been seen in the far south of Chile with the collaboration between Wood and the U. de Magallanes.”
As for the projections of Hyvolution Chile beyond the borders, she assures that in only three years this has been consolidated as the main meeting of the green hydrogen industry in the region. “The results have exceeded our expectations: organizing this summit represents a constant challenge that involves not only building strategic alliances and generating regional expectations, but also maintaining the highest technical level to dialogue with all stakeholders,” she says.
She also highlights that the fair has the support of the Minister of Energy, Diego Pardow, who is honorary president of the event. “We participated in the World Hydrogen Summit in Rotterdam as part of the Chilean delegation (led by Pardow), projecting Hyvolution on the global stage,” she adds. In her opinion, the great challenge now is to “unify all these elements into an integral experience that will mark a before and after for the attendees.”
Boosting growth
With growing global pressure to accelerate the energy transition, Chile wants to position itself not only as a supplier of green molecules, but also as an actor capable of articulating sustainable value chains. In this sense, the meeting will be a showcase for technological initiatives, human capital development and collaborative schemes to reduce gaps. “This industry is not only essential to advance in the urgent decarbonization of our energy matrix, but also has enormous potential to boost the country’s economic growth. And that is precisely what we seek to highlight and make visible through Hyvolution,” concludes Carola Fuentes.
