The Netherlands is making significant progress in the field of hydrogen energy, positioning itself as a global leader in the transition to renewable energy. One of the key initiatives driving this progress is the strategic partnership with Chile, focused on fostering the development and distribution of green hydrogen. This collaboration is vital for both nations as they address the global imperative of decarbonization. The Netherlands is committed to establishing itself as a central hub for green hydrogen in Europe. The country has developed extensive offshore wind farms and continues to invest in renewable energy technologies, reducing dependence on fossil fuels. The Dutch government’s long-term strategy focuses on the creation of regional hydrogen centers and the development of international hydrogen corridors. This approach not only stabilizes domestic electricity supply, but also positions the Netherlands as a key player in the global hydrogen market. The green corridor initiative The collaboration between the two countries is designed to establish a green hydrogen corridor, enhancing energy security and supporting the global energy transition. Chile, endowed with abundant renewable energy resources, is positioned to become a major producer of green hydrogen. The country’s ambitious strategy aims to export more than $2.5 billion worth of renewable hydrogen annually by 2030. The Netherlands, with its strategic location and advanced infrastructure, seeks to facilitate this by becoming the main gateway for green hydrogen to Europe. The main objective of this partnership is to create a strong and efficient supply chain for green hydrogen, benefiting both Chile and the Netherlands. By combining Dutch expertise in logistics and infrastructure with Chilean renewable resources, the partnership seeks to establish a green hydrogen corridor that will enhance energy security, promote sustainable growth and support the decarbonization of local industries in both countries. Participation in Hyvolution The Netherlands’ participation in Hyvolution, under a public-private program (Partnership for International Business, PIB), aims to showcase Dutch expertise in the hydrogen sector and promote bilateral cooperation. By working together, the Netherlands and Chile aim to drive innovation in hydrogen production and supply, accelerating the adoption of green hydrogen in various industries. This GDP underscores a shared commitment to solving global energy challenges and transitioning to a sustainable future. Through this strategic collaboration, both nations are poised to unlock new opportunities in the green hydrogen sector, demonstrating the power of international cooperation to achieve decarbonization and sustainable development on a large scale. The partnership will focus on the development of hydrogen centers in Magallanes and Mejillones, Chile, regions with significant potential for green hydrogen production. Dutch support provides crucial technical assistance, manages stakeholders and addresses environmental and social impacts.
