A high-level business delegation from the Netherlands will visit Chile as part of Hyvolution Chile 2025, to be held in Santiago from September 2 to 4, with the aim of consolidating strategic alliances in green hydrogen and exploring opportunities in critical minerals such as copper, lithium, and rare earths.
Led by prominent players such as Port of Rotterdam, Arcadis, Port Consultants Rotterdam, Vopak, and Rotterdam Partners, the mission will hold meetings with government authorities, key stakeholders in the energy sector, and representatives of the mining industry, with the goal of promoting joint projects and enabling infrastructure for the export of clean energy to Europe.
The visit is part of the Partners for International Business (PIB) Green Energy Corridor Chile – Netherlands program, driven by a joint effort between Dutch companies and the Dutch government to strengthen technological, economic, and logistical cooperation in the development of the green hydrogen value chain.
This initiative falls within the framework of 200 years of bilateral relations between Chile and the Netherlands.
A long-term institutional alliance
Since 2021, Chile and the Netherlands have been working on a bilateral agenda for the joint development of green hydrogen, updated in October 2024 by Minister Diego Pardow. In parallel, the Port of Rotterdam has maintained a Memorandum of Understanding with the Chilean Ministry of Energy to design logistical and energy corridors and develop shared infrastructure for energy exports
“Cooperation between Chile and the Netherlands in green hydrogen is not only technical, but also strategic. Both countries share the vision that hydrogen will be essential for a decarbonized economy, and this alliance is building the bridges needed to make it a reality,” said Luis Soruco, Director of Arcadis Chile and Peru.
A decisive moment for international cooperation
At a time when the hydrogen industry faces challenges in financing, regulation, and social acceptance, this visit becomes a strategic opportunity to strengthen trust and accelerate the implementation of projects that will consolidate Chile as a reliable partner in the supply of clean energy to Europe.
Hyvolution Chile 2025 will be the perfect showcase to present to the world an alliance already emerging as a benchmark for international collaboration in the energy transition. Four PIB program companies—Port of Rotterdam, Port Consultants Rotterdam, Arcadis, and Vopak—will be present at stand 221, showcasing expertise, innovation, and forward-looking vision.
A growing ecosystem
The participating companies bring solutions in infrastructure, engineering, port planning, and energy transition—all essential to establishing Chile as a green hydrogen export hub to Europe, particularly to the Netherlands.
“Chile’s renewable energy potential is undeniable: it can leverage this potential to decarbonize its own industry and create value in the production of hydrogen and derivatives such as ammonia and renewable fuels. Although market developments are taking longer than expected and the required investments are complex, they remain realistic. That’s why cooperation is key. The Port of Rotterdam is committed to collaborating and building alliances with all relevant actors in the value chain, including other ports,” stated Erik van der Heijden, Business Manager for Energy Transition at the Port of Rotterdam.
During their stay, the delegation will meet with authorities from the Ministry of Energy, the Ministry of Transport and Telecommunications, CORFO, and companies to accelerate projects, discussions on shared infrastructure, and commercial agreements.
Presence at the Naval Energy Summit in Valparaíso
Before Hyvolution, the delegation will take part in the Naval Energy Summit on August 27–28 in Valparaíso, where discussions will focus on the decarbonization of maritime transport, the integration of clean energy, and the logistical role of green hydrogen. This will provide an opportunity to strengthen ties with Chile’s maritime-port sector and explore synergies for sustainable infrastructure—an especially important activity, considering that Chile has decided to create, through CORFO, the Naval Committee.
“At Port Consultants Rotterdam, we believe port and logistics planning must be forward-looking. We work to ensure that Chilean ports are ready for future demand for hydrogen and its derivatives, such as green ammonia, with efficiency, safety, and long-term vision,” said Daan Bos, Partner at Port Consultants Rotterdam.
Diplomatic commitment and shared vision
“This collaboration reflects the long-term commitment between Chile and the Netherlands to face the challenge of the energy transition together. Green hydrogen is a bridge between our countries: it unites our knowledge, innovation, and shared climate ambition,” stated Elke Merks Schaapveld, Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Chile.
