Rebeca Poleo and Marcela Angulo were the only Latin Americans included in the prestigious list prepared by Hydrogen Economist and Women’s Global Leadership Conference in Energy, which distinguishes the most influential women in the global hydrogen economy.
Chile is proud to be back on the world energy scene. Rebeca Poleo, president of the Chilean Hydrogen Association (H2 Chile), and Dr. Marcela Angulo, director of the University of Concepción in Santiago, have been included in the list “Women in Hydrogen 50” 2025, an outstanding selection that recognizes women leaders for their contribution to the development of hydrogen at the international level.
The award is presented by Hydrogen Economist in collaboration with the Women’s Global Leadership Conference in Energy (WGLC), and will be officially presented in October during the conference in Houston, USA.
Technical, strategic and transformational leadership
Chemical engineer Rebeca Poleo was recognized for her solid career of almost two decades in the energy industry, excelling in the design, operation and construction of oil, gas and hydrogen facilities in Venezuela, Chile and Bolivia.
She is currently head of hydrogen projects at ENGIE Chile, is a founding member of the Association of H2V Producers of Magallanes, is part of the Ethics and Compliance Committee of H2 Chile, and has been an active promoter of good practices and governance in the industry.
Territorial vision for industrial change
Dr. Marcela Angulo, PhD in Environmental Sciences and current director of the Santiago branch of the Universidad de Concepción, was highlighted in the category “Industrial use and change”, recognizing her work to integrate green hydrogen in high-impact industrial processes. Angulo has promoted an applied research agenda aimed at the decarbonization of sectors such as mining, forestry and petrochemical industries, with a territorial approach that seeks to position the Biobío Region as a strategic pole for the use of hydrogen in local industries.
Her contribution has been key in sectoral planning initiatives, such as her participation in Corfo’s Green Hydrogen Strategic Committee, and in the strengthening of the innovation ecosystem and the formation of specialized human capital.
